Planned Giving

To help you structure your planned gift, you should consult with an attorney, financial planner, accountant or insurance agent. They will make sure you get the maximum tax and legal benefits allowed for your gift. Whatever you decide to give, and however you decide to structure the gift, the most important thing is to feel good about doing it.

Honor a Loved One

Make a memorial donation in honor of a family member or friend. A memorial donation is a thoughtful way to express sympathy for the loss of a special person. Make a gift in honor of family members, coworkers, or friends for their birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or a holiday donation.

In times of celebration or sadness, your expression of caring will have a lasting impact on our community. Bequests

A charitable bequest supports our nonprofit programs and can reduce your Estate tax liability, thus benefiting your heirs.

You might think you have to be wealthy to have an Estate or to donate to the Brain Injury Association of Oregon. This is not true. An Estate is simply any property, money, or personal belongings you may have at the time of your death. Anyone can arrange to leave a Charitable Gift from his or her Estate, regardless of its size.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity is a legal contract under which an individual, in exchange for his or her gift to charity, will receive fixed payments for life. The charity uses the interest and part of the principal to make payments to the individual or "annuitant." Gift annuities can also be arranged to provide annuity payments for two lives as well. The amount of the annuity payment depends upon the ages (s) of the individual (s) receiving the annuity and the amount of the gift.

Gift annuities are most attractive to senior persons primarily because the payments are fixed and guaranteed. The annuity amount will not change regardless of current investment or market conditions and, therefore, offers many attractive benefits for the security-minded individual. In the current low interest rate environment, the gift annuity is an excellent way to increase one's income, especially for the senior person. A gift annuity is certainly worth investigating if one's objectives include receiving guaranteed, dependable payments for life, substantially reducing income tax, increasing or shoring up retirement income and making a gift to a favorite charity.

Since a gift annuity is actually a combination of a gift to charity and an annuity, the donor may claim a charitable donation on his or her income tax return in the year the gift is made. This deduction actually reduces the cost of the gift annuity because of the tax savings received from the deduction.

Workplace Giving

Many workplaces today offer the opportunity to make a donation to the Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon, often as a simple and painless payroll deduction. If your workplace is involved in the Combined Federal Campaign, State Combined Fund Drive, the United Way Campaign or a Combined Health Appeal, please remember to write in the Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon as the recipient of your support. An example of this type of giving are state, county, municipal, and federal employees who can write in BIAOR through the annual State Combined Fund Drive and Combined Federal Campaign. Also, some United Way Campaigns in Oregon offer "donor choice" programs that allow donors to write in BIAOR as the recipient.

Matching Gifts Program

Double your Gift Through Matching Gifts!

Want to make your gift go twice as far? Many corporations have matching gift programs that multiply the value of gifts from their employees, officers, retirees and spouses from 50 to 100 percent. A matching gift form may be obtained from the company personnel or human resources offices. Please, take the time to pick up a matching gift form. By giving a small amount of your time now to fill out the necessary information and send it along with your donation, you will start the process of increasing benefits from your gift.

Through a partnership with VDAC (Vehicle Donations to Any Charity), The Brain Injury Association of Oregon, BIAOR, is now a part of a vehicle donation system. BIAOR can accept vehicles from anywhere in the country. VDAC will handle the towing, issue a charitable receipt to you, auction the vehicle, handle the transfer of title, etc. Donations can be accepted online, or call 1-866-332-1778.
