Walk starts

On September 20th, support groups from Salem and Eugene teamed up to hold an Awareness Walk and fundraiser at Salem Riverfront Park. The event has so far raised $6,000 to be shared between the Brain Injury Association and participating support groups to help them fund group activities and directly assist members. Planning is already beginning for the 2004 Walks to be held in Salem and Eugene probably in September though no dates have been set.

Altogether, there were 200 participants and donors. 25 local businesses donated prizes for the top fund raisers and for a prize drawing for those attending.

Other highlights included an appearance and presentation by Salem area Representative Billy Dalto music by Kanzeon, a Portland area singer-songwriter who also has experienced brain injury and comfort food prepared by Ginny Real and husband Pat.

Warren Franklin of radio station KBZY and the Statesman Journal were very helpful in publicizing the event and getting out the word about brain injury to the Salem community.

The Walk was dedicated to the memory of Robert Miller of Lebanon.

Thanks to Pamela Olson, Leah Mangis and the other Salem area folks who did such a great job in planning and carrying out the Walk.
