Bios

Sherry Stock has been the Executive Director of the Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon (BIAOR) since 2004. The Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon is the only state, nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of creating a better future for people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families through prevention, research, education and advocacy. Sherry’s educational highlights include: Masters degrees in Medical Sociology, International Gerontology, and Neuro-Gerontology, with minors in Epidemiology and Health Science; nationally certified as a Brain Injury Specialist Trainer with the  Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialist; and ABD in Systems Science, focusing on applying Chaos Theory to epidemics. Sherry has taught numerous courses in Sociology, International Gerontology, Systems Science and Medical Sociology.   She has presented Sherry has been appointed by the Governor of Oregon to: the Oregon Disability Commission, where she is the chair; the Oregon State Rehabilitation Council, and the State Independent Living Council, where she is vice chair.  Sherry is a member of: the Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council for both Oregon and Idaho; the Washington Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Coordination Services training team; the Oregon Military Support Network, Secretary, and the Oregon Reintegration Team working with returning military.  She is a Board member on numerous National and Oregon non-profits, State and National Steering Committees.   Sherry has authored dozens of handbooks, monographs, articles, book chapters and books and is a national speaker.  Sherry’s latest handbook, Brain Injury Handbook: An Introductory Guide to Understanding Brain Injury for Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals was published in January 2011 and Brain Injury Handbook: An Employer’s Guide to Working with Individuals with Brain Injury will be published in late 2011.
